at the 58th regular session of the CPR to UN-Habitat
on item 8b: High Level Dialogue on Somalia. The work of UN-Habitat in the Federal Republic of Somalia.
16 September 2015
Let me thank the organizers for this timely initiative – convening High Level Dialogue on Somalia.
My delegation commends the work done so far by UN-Habitat and other parties involved.
The presence of a Delegation of the Federal Republic of Somalia on a ministerial level is highly welcomed and confirms the importance of the UN-Habitat activities for the Somalian Side and commitment of its Government to the ongoing programme activities.
Ukraine is closely following the processes taking place in Somalia in terms of urban development, economic growth and good governance which are regarded as positive advancements.
We are pleased to witness the level of cooperation between the Federal Government of Somalia and the UN agencies and other partners involved in the process of improving the system of livelihood for the people of Somalia.
The work being done by UN-Habitat, despite several terrorist attacks, is thereby particularly appraised.
Ukraine considers that thematic areas and, therefore, the projects to address existing urban challenges in Somalia are well-matched.
In our opinion such projects as Support of Integration of Internally Displaced Persons, Shelter Provision for Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons, Local Governance and Decentralized Service Delivery, as well as Joint Programme on Youth Employment are of a great significance.
We express our hope for timely and comprehensive realization of all the existing projects and are confident that they will further promote state-building and well-being of people of Somalia.
We believe that this experience will become another example of successful implementation of efforts and resources of UN-Habitat and that its best practices will lay the basis for future application in other countries.
I thank you, Mr Chairman.
