As part of the cultural diplomacy project by the First Lady of Ukraine, Mrs. Olena Zelenska, Ukrainian-language audio guide the first in Rwanda and second in the East Africa region was launched at the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

The genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994 caused numerous human losses and left a deep wound in the consciousness of the Rwandan people. The Memorial became a national place of remembrance and a symbol of reconciliation of the Rwandan people, today it continues to play an important role in Rwanda’s unity.

"The introduction of Ukrainian language audio guide at the Kigali Genocide Memorial is our way to express our condolences and respect for the tragedy of Rwanda on behalf of Ukraine. The pain and loss of Rwandans resonate with our complicated history, as Ukrainians also became victims of to the genocide — the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933. We must work together to make the truth about these genocides widely known so that such crimes against humanity would be condemned by the whole world community "- H.E. Mr. Andrii Pravednyk, Ambassador of Ukraine to Kenya, outlined during the official launch of the Ukrainian language audio guide at the Memorial.

More than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi have been buried at the Memorial. The Memorial complex also includes exhibitions, memorial gardens and archives. It is a place of remembrance for the survivors, as well as an educational center for young people and for Rwandan society as a whole.

 The Embassy of Ukraine in Kenya expresses gratitude to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Administration for their cooperation and support in launching the project.
