Uganda is an important partner for Ukraine in East Africa, offering opportunities for expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
Uganda's membership in the East African Community (EAC), its growing domestic market and access to regional transport corridors through Kenya and Tanzania create favourable conditions for cooperation in agriculture, food processing, pharmaceuticals, industrial equipment and technology.
Bilateral Trade in Goods
According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, bilateral trade in goods between Ukraine and Uganda amounted to USD 24.45 million in 2025, including Ukrainian exports of USD 9.18 million and imports from Uganda of USD 15.26 million. Ukraine's trade deficit stood at USD 6.08 million.
In January–September 2026, bilateral trade in goods between Ukraine and Uganda totalled USD 15.56 million. Ukrainian exports amounted to USD 5.76 million, while imports from Uganda reached USD 9.80 million. Ukraine recorded a trade deficit of USD 4.04 million.
Main Export and Import Products
Malt beer was the leading Ukrainian export to Uganda in January–September 2026, accounting for approximately USD 5.52 million, or nearly 96% of total Ukrainian exports.
Other Ukrainian exports included pharmaceutical products, petroleum products and selected industrial goods.
Uganda's main export to Ukraine was coffee, valued at approximately USD 9.55 million, representing more than 97% of total Ukrainian imports from Uganda. Other imported products included tropical fruits, tobacco and fish products.
Priority Areas of Cooperation
Ukraine and Uganda have considerable potential to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and agricultural technologies, food processing, agricultural machinery, veterinary medicine, pharmaceuticals, healthcare technologies, manufacturing, transport and logistics, and information technology.
Particular attention is given to strengthening direct business contacts, facilitating market access, promoting investment opportunities and identifying mutually beneficial projects.
Uganda's participation in regional economic integration provides additional opportunities for Ukrainian businesses seeking access to markets across East Africa.
