As a part of the initiative by First Lady Olena Zelenska, the Embassy of Ukraine in Kenya has launched a Ukrainian-language audio guide in Fort Jesus Museum in Mombasa, Kenya. This guide is the first foreign-language audio guide ever launched at this museum.
The official opening ceremony on July 27, 2021, was attended by H.E. Mr. Andrii Pravednyk, Ambassador of Ukraine to Kenya, Dr.Evangeline Njoka, the Secretary General of the
Kenya National Commission for Unesco, the representatives from the Embassy, as well as the representatives of the Ukrainian National Union of Journalists, Kenyan media and the Ukrainian community.
The project of launching a Ukrainian-language audio guide in Fort Jesus Museum became especially relevant in connection with the introduction of direct charter flights between Ukraine and Kenya, which have already resulted in an increasing number of Ukrainian tourists in Mombasa.
Furthermore, this project of a cultural exchange is to draw public attention to the cultural and historical heritage of Kenya.
The Fort Jesus Museum is one of Kenya's four UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Every week the museum holds an amazing light show, which is broadcasted on the fortress building. The performance is accompanied by a fascinating story about the historical events that took place in "Fort Jesus" from the time of its foundation to the present. From now on, everyone can also enjoy this story in Ukrainian.
