On May 21, 2011 Ambassador of Ukraine Mr. Volodymyr Butiaha met with the Kenya Ports Authority Chief Operations Officer Mr. Joseph Atonga in Mombasa.
Discussing the prospects of cooperation between the ports of Ukraine and Kenya, the Ukrainian diplomat drew attention to the acceleration of the development of the draft Memorandum on cooperation between the ports of Mykolaiv and Mombasa, delivered to Kenyan side earlier this year.
The Heads of the Kenya Ports Authority were transferred suggestions of the GE «Chornomorndiproekt» on design and reconstruction of ports of Mombasa and Lamu.
Mr. Joseph Atonga expressed his interest and promised to familiarize with propositions. He also offered to arrange meetings with the representatives of the above-mentioned state enterprise for a more detailed discussion of possibilities of cooperation. The parties agreed to consider the terms of a visit of the representatives of GE “Chornomorndiproekt" to the port of Mombasa at the nearest time.
At the end of the conversation the Ambassador of Ukraine kindly requested to assist in obtaining any information on the fate of missing fishing vessel «Deneb» owned by GE «Atlantic». Mr Joseph Atonga assured immediately to take any necessary measures at the Kenyan ports and provide with other information concerning the ship.
