The Embassies of Ukraine and Estonia organized a screening of the documentary “After The Rain: Putin’s Stolen Children Come Home” in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

The film is based on a series of conversations with Ukrainian children who became victims of Russian genocidal policies of deportation.

Those conversations are filmed at an Estonian retreat on the Baltic Sea, where these children could have a moment of calmness and meditation that leads to their recovery.

The healing process is long and painful. Memories of these children are dark and eerie; they try to erase them and cover their pain with the fake smiles. But the testimonies are coming to light in the brief moments of the most dramatic conversations with the Estonian therapists, when kids, turned into de-facto prisoners of war by the Russian regime, have their moments of catharsis in the rainy Estonian woods.

“Bringing Ukrainian children back home from Russian captivity is one of the most important tasks for my country on the humanitarian track”. – H.E. Andrii Pravednyk, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Kenya has stated. – “Russia’s goal is the destruction of civic identity of the nations it tries to occupy. We are most thankful to our Estonian brothers and sisters who, alongside with other partners from around the globe, help us to bring our kids back.”

Nearly 20,000 abducted children remain in Russian institutions, with less than 400 that have safely returned to their homes.

The testimony of one of the children, interviewed in the film, has helped to bring the case against V.Putin to the International Criminal Court (ICC) that has issued warrants for the arrest of Putin and children's ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova on war crimes charges related to the abduction of Ukrainian children.
