During his visit to Nairobi, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniyenko held meetings with the leadership and members of the National Assembly and the Senate of Kenya.

The discussions focused on further developing interparliamentary contacts, strengthening friendship groups, promoting bilateral agreements, trade, food security, education, agricultural technologies, and defence cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to the issue of the recruitment of Kenyan citizens into the Russian army. The Ukrainian side confirmed its readiness for practical cooperation with Kenyan partners, including information exchange and work on specific cases involving Kenyan citizens who are currently in Ukraine as prisoners of war.

The economy was also an important part of the discussions. Ukraine and Kenya have significantly greater potential for bilateral trade than is currently being realised. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in agriculture, the food sector, investment, education, and technology.

The Ukrainian delegation emphasised the importance of restoring the security of navigation in the Black Sea for the stability of global food markets and thanked Kenya for supporting the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law.

During the meetings, an invitation was extended to the leadership of the Parliament of Kenya to participate in the Fifth Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform, which will take place in London in December 2026.

On the day when Ukraine honours the defenders of the state, the Ukrainian delegation laid wreaths at the East African War Memorial in Nairobi, paying tribute to the memory of those who fell.
