On November 11, 2020, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Kenya Andrii Pravednyk held the meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Health of Kenya Mutahi Kagwe. This meeting was the Ambassador's first personal contact with the Cabinet Secretary.
The sides discussed the opportunities of further deepening of bilateral cooperation in the field of healthcare and shared experiences of their countries in reforming the respective sectors. Andrii Pravednyk informed the Kenyan high-ranking official on Ukraine’s best practices in transforming the national healthcare system, in particular the establishment of an effective institution - the National Health Service of Ukraine.
The Sides also discussed the efforts of their respective Governments aimed at countering the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The interlocutors agreed to exchange the information on the effective steps in this context on a regular basis and expressed the hope that the COVID-19 virus shall be overcome in the short-term perspective.
Andrii Pravednyk also briefed the Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on the Ukrainian higher medical education institutions and invited future Kenyan doctors to master the profession in Ukraine. In this context, Mutahi Kagwe asked to consider the possibility of establishment of the internship and exchange programs for Ukrainian and Kenyan postgraduate students.
Following the meeting, the Sides noted the readiness to further development of horizontal communication to establish more effective cooperation in the healthcare field.
