In commemoration of the victims of the Great Purge of 1937 – 1938 in Ukraine and in view of the 80th anniversary of this tragedy, which started on August 5, Ukrainian Embassy in Kenya joined the program “Book Café” on the national radio station «Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC)».
Ukrainian diplomats shared with the general public the information about the crimes committed in the XXth century in Ukraine by the communist totalitarian regime against representatives of the Ukrainian intelligentsia.
Since the «Book Cafe» is a literary program, a special attention within the discussion was dedicated to the generation of young Ukrainian writers and poets, who were repressed by the soviet authorities. Some of their poems were read during the broadcast.
Separately discussion was today’s role of Moscow in Ukraine, in particular prosecution of people who speak out against Russia’s attempt to annex the Ukrainian Crimea.
A guest from PEN International Kenya, a journalist and a poet, Mr. Toni Mochama, presented his poem, dedicated to Oleg Sentsov’s release.
Respectively, the topic of the Russian military aggression in the East of Ukraine was raised, Kenyan audience was provided with additional information and clarification.
