The staff of the Embassy of Ukraine in Kenya held an event dedicated to the Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, the activist Oleksandr Kolchenko and other citizents of Ukraine, who are illegally detained in Russia.
The representatives of international non-governmental organization of professional writers, editors and translators “PEN International”, Kenyan filmmakers, representatives of the Kenyan Parliament and local mass-media joined the campaign in support of the Ukrainian political prisoners.
The guests watched a documentary “From Crimea to Siberia: How Russia is Tormenting Political Prisoners Sentsov and Kolchenko”, which describes the life of the prisoners in colonies, circumstances of Kolchenko’s and Sentsov’s detention and the story of their fate through the eyes of their relatives.
The participants also performed reading of short stories by the Ukrainian filmmaker, which had been previously translated by “PEN International” into English, as well as poems by Kenyan writers dedicated to his release.

Following the tradition of “PEN International” a “chair for Oleg Sentsov” remained vacant as a symbol of his presence with the audience.

The event concluded by exchange of views and impressions, as well as the discussions with journalists.
