United Republic of Tanzania recognized Ukraine as an independent state on June 8, 1992. Establishment of diplomatic relations was done through exchange of diplomatic notes on July 8, 1992.
Ukraine and Tanzania do not have diplomatic missions in Kyiv and Dodoma or Dar es Salaam respectively.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Kenya that was established in Nairobi in January 2004 is also responsible for relations with Tanzania. Since November 7, 2018 Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Kenya is H.E. Mr. Andrii Pravednyk (presented Credentials on December 5, 2018). Andrii Pravednyk is also expected to be accredited to Tanzania.
The functions of Tanzania’s accreditation to Ukraine are performed through Tanzania’s Embassy in Stockholm. Ambassador of Rwanda to Ukraine is Willibrod Peter Slaa.
There are currently no high-level bilateral commissions. At the same time, Rwanda demonstrates a desire to develop bilateral relations with Ukraine, which manifests itself in willingness to maintain its dialogue with Ukraine at the highest level.
Deliberations with the leadership of Tanzania, namely its President and Minister for Foreign Affairs, testified Tanzania’s intention to develop and deepen cooperation with Ukraine in such fields as trade, agriculture, chemical industry, medicine, education, and machinery.
Concluding of the bilateral agreements should be the basis for establishing cooperation between the two countries.
To date, only the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations has been signed between the countries. Both sides are also revising three draft agreements, namely on promotion and mutual protection of investments, cooperation in the field of education, and the draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Tanzania.
Positive development of Ukraine-Tanzania cooperation has also been observed within the framework of international organizations, in particular through mutual support of the candidatures within the United Nations system.
The leadership of Tanzania, particularly at the highest level, has repeatedly expressed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
