Celebration of Ukrainian Constitution Day and Kenya's Madaraka Day at the Embassy of Ukraine

To commemorate Ukraine’s Constitution Day and Kenya’s Madaraka Day the Embassy of Ukraine organized a joint celebration with Kenyan friends. The guests from PEN-Kenya club, public activists and Constitutional experts have joined us on the occasion of the two significant events which contributed to the statehood of Ukraine and Kenya.

In his speech Ambassador of Ukraine, H.E. Mr.Andrii Pravednyk informed the participants of the event on the main stages of the development and adoption of the Fundamental Law of Ukraine. He also emphasized that the first Ukrainian Constitution, which was written by Ukrainian Cossack leader, Hetman Pylyp Orlyk in 1710, was in fact the first democratic Constitution in the world.
The Kenyan audience became very interested in Ukrainian history and culture. Thus, during the discussion with the Ambassador, the guests asked about the meaning of the National Symbols of Ukraine, the tourist attractions of our country and even musical instruments, in particular bandura.

The guests have presented their speeches about Ukrainian Constitution and the Constitution of Kenya, they also explained meaning of Madaraka Day in the process of the development of the statehood of Kenya. Besides Kenyan authors presented their poems and performed several pieces of musical compositions on a traditional Kenayn instrument obokhano.

Thanking the guests at the end of the celebration, Ambassador of Ukraine mentioned that the joint gatherings and discussions of this kind facilitate people to people contacts, enhance the cultural exchange and strengthen friendly relations between our countries.
